Funeral services for James Monroe Stapleton, 88, of 2123 Langford Steet will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Coker-Mathews-Peters Chapel with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Mr. Stapleton died at 5:30 a.m. Monday at his residence.

He was born May 3, 1886, in Lee County, Va., the son of J.C. Stapleton and Almeda Marcum Stapleton and he married Thela Lorraine Bramlett on August 26, 1909 in Greenville.

Survivors are his son, James M. Stapleton Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Camp of Dallas and Mrs. Evelyn Korchnak of Poland, Ohio; three brothers, M.B. Stapleton and Randolph Stapleton both of Greenville and Gill Stapleton of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Hoff and Miss Myrtle Stapleton also both of Greenville, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stapleton was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Thela Lorraine Stapleton who died August 15, 1974 and one daughter, Mrs. Lois M. Philpot.

Pallbearers will be J.H. Elliott, G.V. Morgan, Sam Ross, J.C. Williams, J.W. McCormack and W.T. Howard.
