Services are Held Sunday at Hartley for Henry Holtz, Jr.

World War II Vet With US Infantry
(88th Div) in France

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Hartley for Henry Holltz, age 60, who died Thursday. The A.H. Geske, pastor of the American Lutheran Church of Melvin, conductd the serviceds. Sacred vocal selections were given by Mrs. B. Hokuf and Kenneth Graves, both of Melvin, with Mrs. Ben DeRoos at the organ.

Henry George Holtz, Jr., the oldest son of a family of eleven children, was born to Henry and Kate Holtz on April 23, 1892 in Scott county in the eastern part of Iowa. At the age of twelve, he moved with his parents to Lyon county in the northwestern part of Iowa. As a young man he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has been a member of that church ever since.

On May 26, 1918, he entered the military service of his country and served on foreign soil especially in France with the 88th division of the US Infantry. He received his honorable discharge on June 14, 1919.

A few months after his discharge, on December 3, 1919, he was united in marriage with Norma Leona Jansen of Sutherland. Three children were born into their home. Melvin of Hartley and Maynard and Bessie at home.

The family circle was broken in September of 1944 when the wife and mother was taken from their midst. The family has lived successively in the Moneta, Hartley, and Melvin communities.

Although Mr. Holtz had been feeling none too well during the past two weeks, he was able to be up and around until last Sunday when he was hospitalized. Presently he went into a coma. The doctors and nurses did everything in their power to help him regain his health, but all to no avail.

Besides his own children already mentioned he is survived by one daughter-in-lwa, Mrs. Velma Holtz, and one grandson, Gayle, born in Hartley.

He is further survived by his six sisters and four brothers. The sisters are: Mrs. Martha Jensen of Inwood; Mrs. Clara Bauer, Doon; Mrs. Luella Serck of Hudson, South Dakota, Mrs. Alma Peters of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Linda Bruder of Warsaw, Illinois, and Mrs. Florence Jobes of Sibley. The brothers are Rudolph of Hollywood; Art of Merrill, Julis Okanogan, Washington, and Louis of Inwood.

He is survived by fifty nephews and nieces besides other distant relatives.
