Homer Louis Appleby, 70, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 1993, at his home. He was born on August 10, 1922, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Edith Stella (Denning) and Homer Cleveland Appleby, Jr.


He married Jewel Mae (Sanders-Hendricksen) on January 26, 1946, in Davenport, IA.


He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Normandy and Northern France; and earning the Bronze Star.


Homer retired in 1964 as superintendent of the street department for the City of Davenport.


He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.


Homer is survived by his wife, Jewel Mae (Sanders-Hendricksen) Appleby; three daughters, Betty Dulaney, of Davenport, IA; Peggy Waldron of LeClaire, IA; and Cleo Smith of Wilton, IA; and six sons: Ralph Appleby of Milan, IL; Robert, Jerry, and Homer Appleby, all of Davenport, IA; Jim Appleby of Glendale, AZ; and Terry Appleby of Wheatland, IA; his sisters, Mabel Behrens and Bonita Shields of Davenport, IA; and Shirley Brodersen of AZ; and a brother, Jim Appleby of Davenport, IA; and 18 grandchildren.
