ROGERS, Edward E. Age 92, of Springfield, passed away on June 25, 2016, in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Born November 3, 1923, on the family farm in Columbia County, Arkansas, Ed was the eldest child of Robert and Iva (Elmore) Rogers. He graduated in 1941 from McNeil High School. A veteran of World War 2, Ed served as a Sergeant with the 824th Ordnance Base Depot Company in Europe and Northern Africa. He was a 1948 graduate of the Magnolia A & M College, and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering and Surveying. Moving to Ohio in 1950, he went to work as project engineer for the H. B. Layne Construction Co. In the early 1960s he was Assistant Engineer for the City of Springfield Public Works Department before taking the position of chief deputy for County Engineer Roger Borchers. In July 1966, Ed was appointed Clark County Sanitary Engineer and retired from that position in 1995.

He is survived by two brothers, Jack (Mary Jimmie) Rogers and Noel (Shirley) Rogers of Magnolia, Ark., brother-in-law, Doug Lewis of Shreveport, La., son, Robert (Julia) Rogers of Bellbrook, daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Thaxton of Springfield, daughter-in-law Angela Behnfeldt of Dayton, grandchildren Neil Rogers, Rob Thaxton, Lori Rogers, Elizabeth (Nick) Cates, Emily Rogers, Corinne Thaxton and Jessica (Jeremy) Beck, great grandchildren Cooper Wimmer, Kallie Parsons, Koehler Morris, Coen Shelton and Illyana Beck. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joan Mitchell Rogers, whom he married on August 6, 1954, son, Gerald Edward Rogers, daughter, Lori Diane Rogers and sisters Mary Evelyn Lewis and Carolyn Elmore Rogers.

Funeral service in the Maiden Lane Church of God, Springfield with the Rev. James Leighty officiating. Burial at Ferncliff Cemetery will follow the service.
