Arlene M. Nelson, 92, Grand Rapids, formerly of Cushing, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at Majestic Pines Senior Living in Grand Rapids.

Services were held Thursday, July 21, at Cushing Baptist Church in Cushing with Rev. Dan Holmes officiating.

Arlene Marie Anderson was born November 19, 1923, in Cushing to Jensenius (Jens) and Mary (Warinner) Anderson. She graduated from Little Falls High School and married Russell R. Nelson July 31, 1943, in Ypsilanti, MI. While Russell was serving in the U.S. Air Corp, they lived in many different locations in Idaho, Nevada and Kansas. Most of their married life was spent in Cushing and Camp Ripley north of Little Falls, where Arlene worked for 19 years. Russ passed away in January of 1987.

Arlene was an active member of Cushing Baptist Church where sang in the choir and served on the hospitality committee. She also was a member of the Cushing Women’s Club and Mission Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; brothers, Arthur, Albert, and Duane; sisters, Lila Anderson, Doris Harrison, Ruth Garrison, and Catherine Eckblad.
