Dorothy Dean White, age 92, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE.

Dorothy was born on September 15, 1923 to Roy Leslie Stewart and Hazel Leota (Bymer) on the family farm north of Culbertson. She was one of twelve siblings raised on the farm.

On October 20, 1944, Dorothy married the love of her life and Decorated World War II veteran Albert E. White, in McCook. The couple met while Albert was stationed at the Airbase north of McCook. Following the war, Dorothy and Albert lived in Albert’s hometown of Wolfeboro, NH before moving back to McCook in 1952. The family made their home here, raising their three daughters: Judy, Brenda and Terri.

In the 1940’s you would find Dorothy working in Hested’s Department Store in McCook. From 1965 until she retired, she worked at DeGroff’s as a buyer and manager of the women’s clothing department. She loved to dance and always enjoyed beautiful flowers. Despite never taking a music lesson, Dorothy could play anything by ear. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings in her home. Dorothy and Albert were active members of the First Congregational Church in McCook.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 2013; her parents Roy and Hazel Stewart; brothers Cecil, Virgil, Donald, Roy and Orville Stewart; and sisters Beulah Miles and Martha Berns.
