Charles A. Place, N.J. State Trooper
U. Mt. Bethel Troop. Charles A. Place, 74, of Mount Bethel, died Tuesday, April 19, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.
He was a New Jersey state trooper for 24 years, retiring as a sergeant in 1974. He graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy with the 36rd class in September 1949, and served his entire career in Troop. He was station in Washington, Blairstown, Princeton, Newton, Sussex and Clinton. He received many letters of commendation during his tenure and was never reprimanded.
Born June 16, 1919, in Stone Church, he was a son of the late Charles Clayton and Olga Roberts Place. He lived most of his life in Belvidere before moving to Mount Bethel three years ago.
He was a graduate of Belvidere High School.
He served as a U. S. Army medic for three years duing World War II, in the 676 Medic Company in southern France.
He was a member of American Legion post 131 of Belvidere.
His wife, the former Dorothy Moxley, died one year ago.
He is survived by four sons, Richard A. , of Harmony, a detective sergeant in the New Jersey State Police; Robert A. of Mount Bethel; Michael J. of Palm Springs, Calif., and David W. of Naples. Fla.; a brother Donald of Mount Bethel; and two grandchilden.
Services are being arranged by the Lanteman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg.
