Ralph Franklin Cragle
Interested in organic farming and beekeeping
Ralph Franklin Cragle, 93, of Lime Ridge concluded his journey in this life at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in Geisinger Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Slocum Township on Aug. 13, 1917, a son of the late Walter S. and Blanche Hontz Cragle of Pond Hill, he graduated from Nescopeck High School in 1935. He retired as a machinist from McBride Machine Corp. in 1983. For 23 years, he was previously employed at Magee Carpet as machine shop supervisor. He also worked at Nottingham and Truesdale mines, Berwick Forge, the Danville Auto Auction for 16 years and drove a bakery truck.
A member of Bloomsburg Christian Church, he was a former deacon. His interests were organic gardening, music, beekeeping, fishing and his children.
Preceding him in death were an infant son; two stepsons; two step-grandsons; brothers and sisters: Gladys Walk; James Cragle; Margaret Peake; Woodrow Cragle; Walter Cragle; Naomi Ricca; Miriam Welliver; and Allen Cragle.
Ralph will be remembered by his wife, whom he married May 29, 1968, the former Mary Houseknecht Ohl; two children: Ray Cragle and his wife, Mary Ann, Princeton Junction, N.J.; Bonnie Shutt and husband, Roger, Danville; one granddaughter, Dr. Ivy Tamblin; and three great-grandchildren: Hannah, Aurora and Gabriel Tamblin; three stepdaughters: Linda Roark, Indiana; Marcia Hogg, Indiana; Lynne Mathews, Colorado; nine step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-step-grandson; two sisters and one brother: Minnie Kishbaugh, New Mexico; Violet Kraus, North Dakota; and Donald Cragle, Berwick.
"Forever in our hearts." Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service in the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor George Johns and sons-in-law, Pastor Ed Roark, Pastor Michael Hogg and Pastor Paige Mathews, presiding. Calling hours are 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday.
