Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Liggett was born at Richmond, Virginia, July 3, 1851, and died at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa, December 14, 1914, aged 63 years, 5 months, 11 days. At two years of age she came with her parents to Bishop Hill, Ill, aferwards moving with them to Knox county, Ill., where she was married Febuary 8, 1876, to James Wesley Nibel. In 1880, they came to Iowa, settling at Gowrie, thence in 1896 to Paton, where they lived until they purchased their farm east of Dayton, moving on it in the spring of 1910, where they have since lived. She is survived by the bereaved husband, three sons, Joseph of Paton, Lester, and Harry of Dayton; five daughters, Mrs. Allie Edgerton, of Gowrie, and Mrs. Gertrude Mum[p]er, of Haverhill, Mrs. Elsie Scharf of Fort Dodge and Irene and Edna Nibel still at home; 22 grandchildren, three sisters and a brother to mourn her death.
Her brother from Peoria, Ill, and a sister from Ames, were present for her funeral, which was held last Thursday afternoon from the Grace M. E. church, Rev. Moore conducting the services, and her remains were laid to rest in the Dayton cemetery. Mrs. Nibel gave her heart to the Lord at the age of sixteen and has always lived an active consistent Christian, always a loving wife and mother. A host of friends of the bereaved family sympathize with them in their sorrow.
