Barbara Aalbers, age 81, Watertown, formerly of Clark, died in Jenkins Living Center at Watertown, SD early Sunday morning, October 16, 2016.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark and after 9AM at the Church in Clark on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clark with Pastor Mindy Ehrke officiating. The organist will be Dorothy Fuller. The casketbearers will be her grandchildren-Tim Aalbers, Derick Johnson, Carrie Blackwelder, Heather Block, Ashley Aalbers, Tony Smith, Brad Smith, Randy Smith, Robin Staley and Shelly Smith. Burial will follow in the DeSmet Cemetery at DeSmet.

Barbara was born on July 22, 1935 at Bancroft, SD the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Buzzyn) Janssen. She lived on a farm there with her parents and siblings for many years and attended school in DeSmet, SD. On February 4, 1952 she was united in marriage to Donald Aalbers in DeSmet, SD. To this marriage there were 5 children born.

Barb worked at various jobs around the DeSmet area. When she and Don moved to Clark she had various jobs there. The one that she enjoyed the most was working in the Dietary Department for almost 36 years at the Clark Nursing home. She loved doing the cooking and baking for all the residents. Another past time that Barb did was selling Avon products. Plus every year you would see her and Don selling fireworks for the community.

Barb was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Clark community for many years. Barb loved to play Bingo and would travel around the area doing so. She also enjoyed playing all types of cards, especially "31" and loved winning. Barb was a wonderful baker and you couldn't visit without having a cookie or a piece of cake. She loved to cook and would host many meals at their place. In later years Barb did a lot of camping and traveling around the area to different places enjoying the outdoors.

Barb moved to Watertown and lived in various apartments. Due to health issues, Barb later became a resident of Roetells Assisted Living and then eventually in 2015 she moved to the Jenkins Nursing home.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Henry and Elizabeth; a step-father, Maynard Beeninga; a son, Richard, and a great grandchild, Zackary. Also proceeding her was a sister, Betty Ann Goldsmith.

Survivors include her children, Cindy (Steve) Smith of Columbus, MT, Sandy (Bill) Luke of Clark, Marcia Johnson of Watertown, and Jim (Jennifer) Aalbers of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Sylvia (Norm) Lee of Custer, SD and a brother, Larry (Naomi) Janssen of DeSmet, SD plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
