James Amonette Services Held --
James Garfield Amonette of Cowan, a retired coal miner, died Friday in West Side Hospital in Nashville following an extended illness. He was 72.
Services were conducted a 1 p.m. Monday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Voce and the Rev. William Sheridan officiated. Burial was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Amonette, a native of Pickett County, was born September 19, 1903. He was the son of Sarah Smith Amonette and Sherman Amonette.
He was a Baptist and a member of Deer Creek Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lydia Fuqua Amonette; two sons, Donald Amonette and Bobby Amonette, Cowan; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Ray and Mrs. Carson Sells, both of Cowan; two half-brothers, Maynard Smith and Charnel Smith, Cowan; a half-sister, Mrs. Becky Wright, Livingston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
