Vernon, age 81, passed away at Via Christie Hospital in Manhattan. He was the son of Paul Sr. and Florence (Hoopes) Barnes. He married Norma Jean Shannon on December 24, 1955, in Ottawa, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State University with a masters degree and taught at Haven High School, Manhattan High School, Emporia Teachers College, and Kansas State University. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Paul Barnes Jr and Delores Harbaugh. Survivors include his wife, his children, Lynn Enevoldsen, Barbara Kadish, and Chris Barnes, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his brother, James Barnes. Celebration services were held at Stewart Funeral Home. Burial was in Wamego City Cemetery.
