HIRAM PRUITT, 80, WWII VETERAN

Hiram M. Pruitt, 80, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at a Chillicothe hospital.

Born May 24, 1917, in Greenup, Ky., a son of the late Hiram and Minnie Staggs Pruitt, he was a World War II Marine veteran, a member of James Dickey Post American Legion and Christian Holiness Church of Garrison, Ky., and a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Duncan Pruitt; four daughters, Doris Liles and Sue Thayer, both of Quincy, Ky., Geneva Adams of Raleigh, N.C. and Sandra Keaton of Maysville, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Blanch Hunter of Portsmouth and Thelma Evans of West Portsmouth; a stepson, Thomas Haddox of Semmes, Ala.; a sister, Mary Liles of Vanceburg, Ky.; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

He also was preceded in death by two sons, Lester and Chester Pruitt; two daughters, Charlotte Maria and Shirley Pruitt; five brothers, Albert, Denny, Luther, George and Harry Pruitt; and two sisters, Rebecca Kimbler and Hazel Pruitt.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with interment in Waring
Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to9 p.m. Tuesday.
