Marvin A. Mai, 94, of Omaha, NE, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Post 3328 VFW and Post 220 American Legion, both of Remsen. Visitation with family present 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, with a parish rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.

Marvin was born Dec. 24, 1922, at Remsen, IA, son of John & Theresa (Rodesch) Mai. He was raised and educated in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. Marv was a veteran of WWII and served in campaigns in Africa and Italy 1941-1945. Was awarded the Purple Heart and later in the war spearheaded bond drives staging mock battles in stadiums across the country.

On Feb. 3, 1948, he married Rose Mary Frank at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.

Marv worked in the bar and restaurant business, owning several establishments over the years. Later in life he sold laundry equipment in Iowa and Nebraska.

Rose Mary died April 12, 2013.

Marvin lived in Omaha the last several years and was living in his own home and remained active until a sudden illness disabled him only two months ago. He fought courageously to regain his health, but lost the battle. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by three children, Connie Fillmore of Marion, IA, Cathy (Robert) Flynn of Kansas City, MO, and Mike (Anne) Mai of Omaha; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob (Mary) Mai of Remsen; and sister, Marlene Wilmes of Mankato, MN.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, John in 1937; mother, Theresa in 1985; and sisters Addie in 1981, Orlene in 1999, and Lorraine in 2010.

Casket bearers will be John Mai, Cory Flynn, Chris Caton, Mike Anderson, Steven Jonson, Greg Harris, and Jon Bowling.
