Death of H. C. Wolfsen.
Mr. H. C. Wolfsen, a well known farmer of this county, died at his home seven miles east of Merced, Wednesday night last, after a month's illness from typhoid fever. Mr. Wolfsen was a native of Germany, and 65 years of age. He came to the United States when a young man and had been a resident of Merced county for twenty-five years. He stood well as a man and a citizen and had the reputation of being honorable and just in all of his business transactions with his fellow men, and was a man of excellent habits. Through his frugality and strict attention to business he accumulated money and a large landed estate which he leaves to his wife and children. Mr. Wolfsen was considered good authority upon all business, and many large business deals have been submitted to him for his judgement before closing them. He was one of the directors of the Commercial Bank and in every respect a successful business man. He leaves a wife and nine children, seven sons and two daughters, to mourn his death. One of his sons is in Chicago studying medicine. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon at 1 o'clock from Odd Fellows' hall and under the auspices of Merced Lodge No. 208 I. O. O. F., and the interment will be in the family vault in the Merced Cemetery, a fine resting place for his remains and one which he had prepared for himself and family during his lifetime.
