Ada Louise May was the daughter of William May and Hattie Vail. According to the 1900 Census, she was living with her family in Chicken Creek, Lawrence County, South Dakota. At that time, she was 8 years of age, the same age as her brother Robert Marion May who was born 27 April 1892. The 1900 census also reported that Hattie had 6 out of 6 children living. A family research report from the Historical Center in Frankfort, Kentucky recorded two young children, Louise and Harry, who died young compared to their four siblings. Harry (Henry Clay) May, was born 12 December 1880 in Paulding County, Ohio and the last record for him was made on 12 September 1918 when he filled out his World War I Draft Registration Card. By the 1905 South Dakota state census, Ada is not listed nor can she be found in the 1910 Federal Census. By that date, Hattie reported that only 5 of her six children were living. It is likely that Ada died between 1900-1905 and is buried in a cemetery within Lawrence County, South Dakota.
