Henry Clay May was the son of William Curtis May and Hattie Vail. He was born in Crane, Paulding County, Ohio. When his family relocated to Lawrence County, South Dakota in 1900, he settled in North Dakota and purchased land in Bowman County. On 28 April 1919, he was united in marriage to Goldie W. Delong in that same county. In 1920, the couple was living in Marmarth, Slope County, North Dakota where Henry's brother also lived.

Goldie and Henry had two known children: William George May (b. 1920) and Henry Zane May (b. 1922). In 1923, the parcel of land that was purchased by Henry was signed over to his wife and by 1925, Goldie was a widow living with two children in Bowman County, North Dakota. Henry died in 20 October 1921 in Mobridge, South Dakota and was buried in Marmarth, Slope County, North Dakota

In 1930, Goldie relocated her family to Haw Creek, Missouri to live with her parents and not long after, she married Homer Edward Lowe having three more children by 1940. After Homer's death, she moved to California where she died in Contra Costa County in 1962.

Marmarth - Henry May, 41, who settled in the Beaver Creek country more than 20 years ago, died at the Mobridge hospital. He leaves a wife and one child.

When his family relocated to Lawrence County, South Dakota in 1900, he settled in North Dakota and purchased land in Bowman County. On 28 April 1919, he was united in marriage to Goldie W.
