Shirley Raydale Walker, 81, of Palestine, IL, died at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Casey Healthcare Center in Casey, IL.

She was born December 14, 1935 in Flat Rock, IL, the daughter of Charles Burl Wesley & Florence (Dunlap) Wesley, both of whom preceded her in death.

She married Emery Joe Walker on August 26, 1984 and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2005.

She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Barbara Jean Wesley, Pauline Snider, Patty Midgett, Donna Keeler, and Norma Lee Butcher; by two brothers, Burl Wesley and Billy Joe Wesley; and by her daughter, Rhonda Sanchez.

She is survived by her children & their spouses, Charles Robin & Susan Roberts (Porterville, IL), Renee & Scott Campbell (Palestine, IL), and Rita & Barry Carmousche (Luling, LA); by her son-in-law, Mick Sanchez (West Palm Beach, FL); by her grandchildren, Damian Williams (Robinson, IL), Amanda Campbell (Robinson, IL), Erica Sanchez (West Palm Beach, FL), and Alex Campbell (Palestine, IL); by her great-grandson, Jeremiah Sanchez; by her sister, Wanda Redman (Flat Rock, IL); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was one of the most loving people you could have ever met. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, with a passion. They will forever remember her particular sense of humor and the infectious laughter that came with it. There wasn’t a child that didn’t feel drawn to her; she simply had a way with children. She was also an incredible cook and always made sure no one left her table hungry. Shirley lived with grace and poise and was a true lady to the very end. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was a lifelong member of the South Union Church in Flat Rock.

A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8th at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery.

In honor of her love of children, memorials may be made to Pinehaven Christian Children’s Ranch & School, a residential, year-round program aimed at providing a stable, controlled, secure environment in which young people can reach the potential that God has placed within them. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
