Rev. Peter Sr. Aleshire served as Pastor of First Regular Baptist Church, Rutland, Meigs County, Ohio which was organized in 1817. He also served as Justice of Peace in Gallia County, Ohio and performed many marriages.

Peter Ailshite/Aleshire married Margaret Koontz 23 Aug 1789, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. They had ten children:

1)Christian (30 Jul 1791-5 Sep 1885).

2)Rev. Ephraim (28 Jan 1793-1864), died Pilot Grove Twp, Hancock, IL. Wife: Elizabeth "Betsy" Williams.

3)Pvt. Peter Jr.(12 Oct 1795-bef 1870), (served in War of 1812 under Cpt. Maj. John Womeldorf's Regmt Volunteers). Wife: Mary A. (maiden name unknown); wife: Hannah Davis.

4)Sarah (1 Oct 1798-3 Mar 1885). Married John Nicholas Sprouse 1814.

5)Jacob Sr. (28 Dec 1800-10 Nov 1870). Wife: Matilda Jane King (1801-1870). Married Meigs County, OH 14 Aug 1823. Both died Fordland, Webster County, MO. Easter Cemetery).

6)Elizabeth (16 May 1803-?). Married William Corn, 2 May 1822.

7)Rebecca (23 Sep 1805-aft 1820).

8)Nelson (5 Oct 1807-1892), died Lick Twp, Jackson, OH, (Fairmount Cemetery). Married Lydia Irvin, 1832.

9)William/Wilson (19 Dec 1810-aft 1880) Liberty Twp, Jackson, OH. Wife: Emily M. Keeton, married 28 Aug 1834, Jackson OH. Wife: Mahala Keeton 12 Mar 1868.

10)Ezekiel (21 Apr 1817-4 Jul 1890), Coalton, Jackson, OH, Wife: Mary Jane Reed, married 18 May 1845, Galia OH. Wife: Martha Ann (maiden name unknown), married before 1859.

MOVED TO MEIGS COUNTY, OHIO:
About 1802, Peter and his brother Michael moved to the Northwest Territory which was formally created in 1787. Congress wanted to speed up sale of Ohio land.

"The Aleshire brothers, Michael and Peter, came as emigrants from the Shenandoah Valley, VA to Ohio in 1802, and settled first near the mouth of Kiger Creek until 1805, when Michael came to Leading Creek and bought a farm. He afterwards moved to Salem where he died in 1845.
"Conrad Aleshire came to Leading Creek, settled on a farm, had a son Abram, who came with him from VA., who was born in 1794 and had two children, Anna and Preston Aleshire. Conrad Aleshire died 1842, aged eighty nine years. Abram Aleshire died in 1865. Peter Aleshire was a Regular Baptist preacher and lived in Salem Township."

After death of Margaret, Peter married about 1827, Martha "Patsy"Russell. They had two children:
Louisiana Aleshire, b. 21 Jul 1828.
Indiana Aleshire, b. 23 Jun 1830.
Louisiana married Robert L. Schurlock, 12 Sep 1850, Jackson County, Ohio.

Rev. Peter Aleshire's Last Will and Testament was proved in Jackson County, Ohio 8 Mar 1847.
Bondsman was George Koontz, brother of Peter's first wife, Margaret.
"In the name of God amen!
I, Peter Aleshire considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
1st. That all my debts as shall by me be owing at my death, together with my funeral expenses and all charges touching the proving of or otherwise concerning this my Will, shall be in the first place out of my personal estate and effects be fully paid and satisfied.
I give and bequeath unto my belovedvwife Martha or Patsy Aleshire the farm that we now live on, it being the South west quarter of the northwest quarter, of section No. 12, township No. 8, range No. 17, containing forty acres together with all my personal property after my debts are paid, to occupy, possess and enjoy the same during her life and at her death I will that is left by my beloved wife to my two youngest daughters, Louisiana Aleshire and Indiana Aleshire at their mother's death to be equally divided and each to have an equal share of the land and of the personal property that is left by their mother, and in case of the death of either of them the other is to have the whole of the above named land and property if she died leaving no heir, and I do make and ordain John Holcomb, together with my beloved wife Patsy Aleshire sole executor and executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of August A.D. 1846." /s/ Peter Aleshire (his mark) (seal) Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named Peter Aleshire to be his last will and testament in the presense of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.
