Johann Jacob Ailshite was born
1762 in Dunmore or Shenandoah
County, Virginia, son of
Johann Conrad Elscheid and
Maria Catharina Goessel.
He died between 1788 and
1794.
John Jacob married 18 Feb 1783
Jane Tschudi (Judy) Shenandoah VA.
(The Swiss Tschudi surname was
anglicized to "Judy" in Virginia.)
They had two children:
John, born about 1884 and one
unnamed.
In a series of emails between Thala June
and Joe McKee [email protected] in
year 2001, the following information was
compiled.
===
"Jacob Ailshite was in the Virginia militia
in 1781 in the Company of Lynchfield Sharp.
Jacob served in the former company with his
brothers, John Conrad and Henry. All three
were at the Siege of Yorktown in Autumn of
1781 when Cornwallis surrendered and the
Revolutionary War was won.
"A roster of Lynchfield Sharp's Company is
preserved, and I have a copy from the
following book:
"Virginia Soldiers of 1776" Louis A.
Burgess, Vol. III - Richmond Press Inc.
Richmond, VA 1929, p. 1265 -
"Captain Linchfield Sharpe's Company of
Shenandoah County under command of Col.
Elias Edmondson, of Gen. Stephen's
Brigade, from 2 Aug until 5 Oct 1781:
Linchfield Sharpe, Captain -
William Bird, Ensign - John Ailshite,
sergeants; Henry Ailshite - Corporals-
Privates, Jacob Ailshite-"
[Email from Joe McKee to Thala June

Another email on the same date from Joe
McKee:
"Jacob Ailshite is listed as not tithable
or less than 21 in the year 1783 tax lists
Shenandoah County Personal Property.
In 1784 he is tithable and over 21.
He also appears in the 1785 and 1788 tax
lists as tithable but not found after 1788.
To satisfy these observations, he must
have been born 1762 or 1763.
According to Minute Book of the Shenandoah
County Court for 1794, two orphans of
Jacob Ailshite, deceased, were bound out
in 1794 by the overseers of the poor for
the county.
So, Jacob died between 1788 and 1794, not
actually in the Revolutionary War, but not
long afterwards."

Unknown where Jacob was buried but assume
he may have been buried in the Judy family
cemetery.
