Eugene C. Pearson, 89, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at his home [Wood River].

Born June 24, 1928 in Wood River, he was a son of Eugene Guy and Emma (Hebenstreit) Pearson.

He married Lois M. Smalley Aug. 7, 1948 in Alton. She passed away Nov. 23, 2000.

Gene worked for Laclede Steel and Standard Oil for a short time, and then retired in 1992 after 35 years as a truck driver for Teamsters, Local #600. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. An avid fisherman, he could catch fish in the deep sea or in any creek he could find. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948, then joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War with the 44th Infantry Division. He was a lifetime member of the East Alton America Legion.

Surviving are three sons, Mark Pearson of Wood River, Jeffrey Pearson of Austin, TX, and David Pearson of Alton; a granddaughter, Raylin Jo Pearson of Rosewood Heights; a sister, Iva Robinson of Sun City West, AZ; and a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Pearson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry Pearson and Dennis Pearson; three brothers, Paul, Robert, and Walter Pearson; and four sisters, Esther Pearson, Hazel Heronimous, Ruth Pointer, and Norma Stassi.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
