Ruth M. Pointer, 90, passed away at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Bethalto Care Center. She was born July 11, 1918, in Carlinville, the daughter of Eugene Guy and Emma Rosetta (Heabonstreit) Pearson.
She married William C. Pointer Sr. on April 6, 1940, in St. Louis, and he preceded her in death.
She worked for Olin/Winchester Corp. as a line worker in the 20- mm division while her husband was in World War ll.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Kathy Pointer Jr. of Bethalto; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce L. and Kenny Hill of Rantoul, 111.: 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Iva and Don Robinson of Sun City, Ariz.; and a brother, Gene Pearson of Wood River.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Pointer; a daughter, Patricia Sue Barks; two sisters, Hazel and Norma; two brothers, Walter and Robert Pearson; and an infant brother and sister. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with the Rev, Willard Meyer officiating. Private burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
