Joe M "Smokey" Blevins, 86, of Bunker Hill, Illinois, died at Edwardsville Nursing & Rehab, Edwardsville, Illinois on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 11:34 am, after battling Alzheimers for many years.

He was born October 30, 1930 in Foard County, near Margaret, Texas to Emberson Blevins and Esther (White) Blevins.

His family was from Keller, Texas near Fort Worth. He worked in aircraft plants including McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis. Later, he worked as a Driver's license examiner in Staunton, Illinois and then became the Director of Maintenance and Transportation in the Bunker Hill, Illinois school district, retiring 23 years later.

On March 28, 1953, he married Dorothy Idleman and was married over 64 years. Joe is survived by his wife; daughters, Dana (Steven) Stagner, Robin (Jon) Payne and Lee Ann Blevins; grandchildren, Michelle Zimmer (Jacob), Jamie Kemper (David), Nicholas Payne (Jamie) and Julie Stagner Smith; great-grandchildren, Ty Zimmer, Lola Zimmer, Gracelyn Payne, Colton Payne and Koen Kemper and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Tate Zimmer; brothers, Lloyd Blevins and Leslie Blevins and sisters, Maxine Lindsay, Maureen Whitted and Louise Rutledge.

Joe was a former alderman and lived in Bunker Hill, Illinois for 61 years.
