He was the son of Albert and Frances (Brinkman) Hempfling. On Jul 2, 1949, he married Mary Agnes Beining, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters: Judy Hempfling, Yellow Springs, and Mary Lou (Keith) Pohlman, Delphos; a son, Jack (Sandy), Le Roy, NY; a sister, Beatrice Miller, Delphos; a daughter-in-law, Agnes Hempfling, Carey; and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a son, brother and sister, all linked below.

A member of St. John's Catholic Church, he was in the Navy during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific as a radio operator. He was a lifelong farmer. He worked at Lincoln Highway Dairy for 30 years. Following that, he worked at Sylvania/Phillips, Ottawa, retiring after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed travelling with his wife.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Rev. Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
