He was born July 11, 1920 in Delphos, to Albert and Frances (Brinkman) Hempfling.
On June 30, 1948, he married Dolores M. Thines, who died July 28, 1998.
Survivors include a son, David Hempfling of Delphos; two daughters, Patricia (Peter) Clementz of Cloverdale and Kathleen (John) Sponosa of Defiance; a brother, Herbert (Mary) Hempfling of Delphos; two sisters, Beatrice Miller of Delphos and Germaine Hemker of Coldwater, Mich.; and two grandsons, Joshua and Ryan Clementz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Leo Miller and Elmer Hemker.
Mr. Hempfling retired after 45 years as a drainage contractor. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Hump Pilot Association and a past president of the St. John Cemetery Board.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp-Orians Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake will be at 8 p.m. Sunday.
