Obituary for Phyllis Anne Chappell
Lewisburg, WV- Phyllis Anne Chappell, 106, of Lewisburg, WV, and formerly of Bluefield, WV, died Thursday October 19, 2017 at her home.
Anne was born March 18, 1911 in Flat Top, WV. She had seven brothers and sisters, all who precede her in death.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Bluefield for 76 years where she was active in the Ladies Ministry and taught Sunday school. She graduated from Shady Springs High School in 1931, and attended Berea and Concord College. She taught school at West Virginia Business College, and she worked as a secretary for Fuqua Electric. She had also worked for city attorney, Luther Scott. Anne was a volunteer at Bluefield Regional Medical Center for 24 years.
Anne married Carlos “Rudy” Chappell on September 11, 1941. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Bradley; her loving granddaughter, Lori Hylton and husband Eddie of Frankford, WV; grandson, Michael Bradley and wife Kim of Greenville, WV; special grandson, Zach Hylton and his daughter Kennedy of Princeton, WV, grandchildren, Michael, Ryan and Cory Bradley; great-grandchildren, Kinliegh and Kylie Bradley; and special family, Rachel Hasson, Basil Adkins, Ivan Cole, and Donna Adkins.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with Rev. Doug McDaniel officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Mercer Funeral Home at 10:30 on Saturday morning.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701.
