Claude Cleveland Thompson, Sr, 85, widower of Verma P Thompson, formerly of 202 Lee Street, died Jan 16, 1994 at Greenwood Methodist Home.

Born in Madison, Ga, he was a son of the late John Henry and Sally Smith Thompson. He was retired from Greenwood Mills Plant No 53, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Ruth Phillips of Greenville and Mrs Frank (Eleanor) Wideman of Greenwood; one son, Cleve Thompson of Alpharetta, Ga; two sisters, Mrs Katie Crow and Mrs Nettie Hulett, both of Greenwood; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 pm at Harley Funeral Home with the Rev Samuel H Poston officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Averette Saylors, Ed Davis, Kenneth Kay, Jim Ballard, Earle Wilson, Furman Ponder, Vasco Hook, Maurice Corley, John Winkler, Jack Word, Gaston Jackson and Tiny Elledge.

Honorary escorts will be Lawrence Hulett, M L Thompson, Gene Hall, Tommy Hand, James Hand, Jonathan Greer, Mickey Hembree, Ricky Palmer, Phil Greeson, Fred Alewine, Clyde Watson, Gene Gardner, Al Brown, Grey Moon, Tronie West and Gus Taylor.

The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends at 1 pm Tuesday.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Lowell Street United Methodist Church, 300 Lowell Street, Greenwood, SC, 29646.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Mrs Frank (Eleanor) Wideman, 123 Sylvan Road, Avondale.
