Evi was born in Clinton Co IN to Lester and Cynthia (Wilhelm) Bryan. She was married to James Harrison Doty I in Clinton Co where they ran a small grocery store at Cheadle Corner. They moved to Burrows in Carroll Co. Where she was widowed at age 39 with 4 children at home. She used insurance money to buy 40 acres most of which she rented out, did sewing for others (seamstress), wove rag rugs, quilted, crocheted, and sold chickens and eggs to provide for her family. She was an independent woman before it was popular! She later married Henry Hobaugh.

Evi Bryan Doty Hobaugh was my grandmother.

Evi L. Hobaugh, 84, of Burrows died Monday, June 13, 1977, at 2:35 p.m. at Brethren’s Home at Flora. She had been in failing health for a year. Born Jan. 19, 1893, in Howard
County, she was the daughter of Lester J. and Cynthia A. Wilhelm Bryan. Her marriage in 1910 was to James H. Doty who died in 1932. She was married to Henry Hobaugh in 1935 and he died in 1964. She was a member of Burrows Christian Church, Ladies Aid Society, Missionary Society and War Mothers. Surviving are two sons, Don Doty of Logansport and William Edgar Doty of Rt. 3, Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Eulalia Coble of Rt. , Delphi and Mrs. Cutha M. Moon of Fortville; a sister, Mrs. Cutha Sink,Logansport; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren. Friends may call between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan Funeral Home, Camden, where services will be at 2 p.m. Friday.Burial will be in Camden
