Son of Charles Henry Bassett and Mary Elizabeth Knight

Husband of Marette Cook, 2 October 1876, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

Obituary. W.H. Bassett of Lago, 72 years old, injured in an automobile accident south of Inkom Thursday afternoon, died at a local hospital Friday night at 10 o'clock. Dr. J.R. Young, attending physician, would assign no cause this morning other than shock with possible heart failure resultant.

Mr. Bassett is survived by his widow and the following children: Harry Bassett, Pocatello; Clarence, Santa Monica, Salif., Roscoe, Ogden; Mrs. Lutie Swensen, Lago; Mrs. Adelia Hansen, Lago. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the McHan Motuary.

Mr. Bassett had resided at Lago for 45 years and had been postmaster there for 15 years.
Mr. Bassett, who suffered deep wounds on the head and bruises about the body, was riding in the back seat of an automobile driven by George Gittens of Pocatello, county commissioner, and in which C.H. Bassett of Lago, chairman of the board of commissioners for Bannock county, was also a passenger. The car turned into the barrow pit at the side of the highway, careening on its side, but not turning over. Will Bassett was thrown against the front seat in such a manner that his head was cut and his chest bruised.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital by R.S. Bristol, a county agent, who was returning from Grace in his own car and, according to the attending physician, had appeared to be recovering nicely from the shock. About 8 o'clock last night members of the family and the doctor visited Mr. Bassett and he appeared very bright, Dr. Young states. Shortly before 10 o'clock, he was called to the hospital, where he found Mr. Bassett dying.
