Son of Charles H. Bassett and Permelia M. Dayton.

Article in Deseret News, 17 Oct 1860:

Died:
In this city, Saturday, Oct 13, HIRAM CLARENCE, infant son of Charles H. and Permelia M. Bassett, Aged 1 year, 1 month, and fifteen days.

------------------------

Within the burial plot, F_12_1, owned by Charles Henry Bassett, there are the graves of 15 individuals. These include Charles and 3 of his wives plus 11 children.

The record for one of these graves, F_12_1_1W, says "Female Bassett" with the death date and the burial date the same, and given as 10/13/1860. The Interment Record shows simply the name Bassett. Then it says, (" " Charles). About 4 lines above this a record says (daughter of ...) and each line after that uses the "ditto" marks to indicate that each line following is also the "daughter of..." So the record reads as "Bassett, daughter of Charles".

Note that the dates in this interment record and the Deseret News article are both 10/13/1860. The Interment Record says "Bassett, daughter of Charles" the newspaper article says "Hiram Clarence, son of Charles H. and Permelia M. Bassett". There are no other records of a Bassett around that time.

It may be that the person entering the info in the Interment Record made a mistake using the "ditto" marks and this was in reality a "son of" instead of a "daughter of".

It is impossible to really know, although the circumstantial evidence seems to show that Hiram Clarence Bassett may be the person buried at F_12_1_1W.

I have chosen to include all the relevant information here because I cannot say for sure. If anyone finds other pertinent info, please pass it on in the "edits" and I will gladly update this page.
