Although Shirley never worked outside the home, she certainly worked hard in the home being the mother of eight children. She was an avid bird watcher, and loved all God’s creatures and creations. If there was ever anything she was interested in, she would learn about it 100 percent. This included her wonderful artwork, extensive insect collection, and family heirloom collection. She also grew beautiful flowers and even did a little taxidermy. Her greatest passion, however, was family history, as she searched long and hard for her ancestors. She was a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout the years, especially with the Girls’ Camp program. She loved serving others and will forever be known as the one who tried to preserve all the flowers in the forest.
Those who truly love and will miss her are her children, Janie (Michael) Charchenko, Sandy (Layne) Peterson, Becky (Hal) Rowley, Patty (Max) Burrell, Polly (Dalen) Edington, Jay (Barbara) Barney, Suzanne (Alan) Judd, and Flint (Rhonda) Barney, plus 54 grandchildren, 179 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many, many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, at 10 a.m., at LDS Stake Center on Pomerene Road. Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday night at Richardson’s Remembrance Center, and 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning before the service. Burial will follow at the Pomerene Cemetery.
