Abner was the s/o James & Margaret (Garrett) Mundell. He had 9 siblings. They were Eleanor, Andrew, Joseph, James, John, Jonathan, Margaret, Eli & Levi.

Abner was a farmer in Monongahela twp. of Greene Co. Pennsylvania. His bible shows that he was born on 27 April 1758.

On 9 Apr 1782 Abner married Mary Barnhill. The couple had 13 children. They were Margaret, Jean, Mary, John, James, Rebecca, Nancy, Samuel, Eleanor, Abner, Priscilla, Hugh & Joseph.

During the Revolution Abner served in many capacities. In 1778 he was a Sgt in the PA Militia, (Capt Wm Crawford's Co of the 5th Battalion). Abner went to Wheeling and was involved in bringing boats to Pittsburg for General Geogre Rogers Clark. Later that year was called to quiet the Tories in the area. Over 100 Tories were arrested. In 1779 he served under Col. Brodhead's Regiment in a campaign against the Indians. Two months of this time in 1779 Abner was based at Fort McIntosh at the mouth of Beaver Creek on the Ohio.

Abner Mundell and his wife, Mary Barnhill, were both originally buried in the Mundell Family Cemetery, but later moved to Garard's Fort (or Goshen) Cemetery
