He was born May 20, 1955 in Dyersburg, Dyer County, Tennessee to George and Mary Myrtle (Kolwyck) Childress.
Mike served proudly with the U.S. Navy then made his career as an auto body painter. Living life to the fullest and spending time with family and friends brought out the best in Mike.
Life's losses identified the undercurrents in his psyche that helped him value the good times even more.
Survivors include his sisters, Ann Parchmann and Joan May of Hammond, IN, nephew Robert (Wendy) Bogle of Valparaiso, other beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his five year old daughter, Sonia Childress, parents, sister, Faye and brothers, Jerry and James.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at MOELLER FUNERAL HOME, VA.LPARAISO with burial following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL at 1:30 p.m.
