REST IN PEACE.
A. W. was born the sixth child of Alford Whitten Moyers and Pinkie B. Stewart, his siblings were Leroy, Rufus, Imogene, Vivian, William and Woodrow. There was another child born to the Moyers family but the little boy was stillborn.
A.W. lived on the farm w/ his parents on what is now Moyers Road and went to church at Tanner United Methodist Church in the Tanner community. In the warmer months his father, Whitten as he was called had this theory that he used to keep his children focused on their chores, he would tell them what had to be done and give them a deadline and then tell them if they met this deadline that he would take the whole family to the Tennessee River to go fishing and camping. The Moyers kids loved to camp so they always had their chores done. A.W. kept this tradition when he married and had his own family and took them to the same river his father had carried him to when he was a boy. A.W. married Lula Bell Hardaway and in 1941 they moved into the house they built on land that his parents, Whitten and Pinkie had given them for a wedding present just as each of their children once married recieved. A.W. and Lula tried to farm their land while A.W. worked even back then farming while working a public job was hard but A.W. and Lula managed, they always had a huge garden and worked it together besides the farming they did, Lula stayed home and took care of their four children 2 boys and 2 girls but not in that order. A.W. had several odd jobs before he got a job at Montsano where he worked until he retired still farming his land while he worked. Afer retirement he continued to farm his land until he wasn't able due to health issues. A.W. lost his precious Lula to cancer in 2005, he was battling Alzheimer's at the time of her death living only two more years before joining her in heaven.
