               Death of William Arnold
              Leaves 2 In the GAR Post

    Reserve — William Arnold, 94, Civil war veteran, died at 9:30 Thursday morning at this home at Reserve, his death leaving the Hiawatha GAR post with only 2 members— Commander J. G. Hanna, Adjutant W. W. Nye.
    Mr. Arnold, a pioneer Brown county resident, is survived by 2 sons, 5 daughters, his wife, 2 daughters having preceded him in death. Mr. Arnold had not been well since he broke his hip in a fall last February. The surviving sons are Alva Arnold, of Padonia, John Arnold, at the home in Reserve; daughters, Mrs. C. S. Sommers, of Lincoln, Nebr., Mrs. Roy Carney, of Clinton, Penn., Mrs. G. B. Runyan, of Henrietta, Okla., Mrs. J. J. Connors, of Oklahoma City, Mrs. T. Caughn, of Lincoln.

Arnold—
William Arnold was born in North Carolina on Nov. 14, 1844, died at his home in Reserve, Kans., at the age of 91 years, 10 months, 27 days. He enlisted in the Civil war at the age of 19 years, was mustered in as a private in Company B, 3rd regiment Provisional Missouri Militia at Oregon, Mo., was relieved from duty Oct 13, 1863. He was married to Druselia Brinton Sept. 7, 1865. To this union 11 children were born: John Arnold, Reserve, Kans., Alva Arnold, Padonia, Kans., Mrs. Lula Runyan, Kusa, Okla., Mrs. Anna Carney, Clinton, Pa., Mrs. Harriet Vaughn, Lincoln, Nebr., Mrs. Felicia Summers, Lincoln, Nebr., Mrs. Elsie Conner, Oklahoma City, Okla., survive. Mrs. Martha Jenkins, Mrs. Dora Plain, Fannie, Aaron preceded him in death. Mr. Arnold has 31 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at the Reserve Methodist church Sunday Sept. 30, with Rev. M. G. McKenze in charge. There was a military escort. Grandsons acted as pallbearers, granddaughters as flower girls. Father Hanna of the GAR of Hiawatha, assisted with the service at the cemetery. Taps were sounded at the grave.
