CHESTER — E.B. "Junior" Adkins, 69, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the East Liverpool City Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1937 in West Hamlin, W.Va., he was the son of the late E.B. Sr. and Opal Cummings Adkins.

Junior retired in 2000 after 32 years as a co-owner of the former Russ Davis IGA in Chester. He was also a co-founder of the Chester-Newell Area Chamber of Commerce and longtime member and past president of the Chester Lions Club.

He graduated from Chester High School in 1956.

Preceding him in death on April 6, 1979, was his wife, Sally Canterbury Adkins, whom he married on Jan. 9, 1960; a brother, Wiser Adkins; and two sisters, Janice Johnson and Patty Miller.

Survivors include four sons, John (Heidi) Adkins of Chester, Paul (Julie) Adkins of East Liverpool, Randall (Carissa) Adkins of Chester and Rodney (Lori) Adkins of Inwood, W.Va.; one daughter, Cathy (Rich) Shaffer of Sharpsburg, Md.; five brothers, Lyneol Adkins of Smithsferry, Pa., Woodrow (Martha) Adkins of East Liverpool, Jack (Leah) Adkins of Lisbon, James (Lynn) Adkins of Howard, Ohio, and John (Vicki) Adkins of Chester; and four sisters, Betty Ray and Francis Davis, both of Lexington, N.C., Mary Bevington of Va., and Sue ( Kenny) Warner of East Canton, Ohio.

Also surviving are grandchildren Brian (Jami) Shaffer of Hagerstown, Md., Chris Shaffer and Matt (Kara) Shaffer, both of Inwood, Joshua Adkins, Erin Adkins, Katie Smith, Maggie Smith and Emily Smith, all of Chester, Amanda Adkins and Lindsay Adkins, both of East Liverpool, Piper Adkins of Chester, and Amanda and Kyle Garlow and great-grandchildren Jesse, Damien and Madelyn.

Services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester followed by burial in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Friends may visit on Tuesday from noon to 8p.m.
