James E. Adkins Sr., 75, of Howard, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 1, 2007, at St. Ann Hospital in Westerville.

He was one of 17 children. Born on July 2, 1931, in Fez WV to Elza and Opal Cummings Adkins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he had been a resident of the Apple Valley community for the past six years and had resided in the Massillon area for over 40 years.

He retired in 1992 from J & L Speciality Steels in Louisville OH where he worked as a line operator.

He is survived and dearly loved by his family and wife of 48 years, Adeline Thomas Adkins, children, Patty Gallagher of Dayton, James Adkins Jr., Janice Gillis of Westerville and Sian Wider of Batavia IL. 10 grandchildren, four great-grandsons and numerous siblings.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 4, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arner Funeral Home in Chester WV where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Frank Carl. Interment with military honors will follow in the Columbiana County Memorial Park. Local arrangements were entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Road, Westerville OH 43082.
