Helen Loretta Rockhold was born in Avon, Fulton county, Illinois, Dec, 17, 1857. She was married to J. A. Holliday on the 17th of December, 1877, to which union four children were born: Lois Davies, of Mankato; Josephine Shrouf of Republic; Mintie who died at the age of four years, and Daphna Mitchell of Byron, Nebr. She passed to the world beyond at her home in Republic Saturday morning, May 29, 1920, at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 12 days.

She enlisted as a banner bearer for her Heavenly Father when a mere girl, and lived a conscientious Christian life until she answered the summons of her supreme Master.

She leaves to mourn her loss, besides the above mentioned daughters, a husband, four brothers, three sisters, four grandchildren and a host of friends.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Bisbee in the M. E. church at this place. The music consisted of a duet by Mr. Werts and Mrs. Paul Beck, and a solo by Mrs. Werts. The remains were laid away in Union Valley cemetery where her father and mother and one brother were buried before her.
