Thirtieth bishop and first archbishop of Guadalajara. A native of Tepic, he was ordained priest on October 20, 1816, in Guadalajara. He was appointed bishop of Guadalajara on September 12, 1853, and received his episcopal consecration on January 18, 1854. When the see of Guadalajara was elevated from diocese to archdiocese, on January 26, 1863, he was promoted to the title of archbishop. During his tenure, he fought hard, in defense of ecclesiastical theses, against the liberal ones of the XIXth century. He died in Mexico City and in 1875 his remains were transfered to the cathedral of Guadalajara.
