Entrepreneur. He became a pioneer in the fishing industry in California. After emigrating from Croatia to the United States in 1908, he began a career in the sardine fishing business at Terminal Island to years later. As a Boat Captain, he revolutionized the industry by using crushed ice to preserve his catch. In 1917, along with four associates, he formed the French Sardine Company. While serving as its Chief Executive Officer, he built the company into one of the world's largest tuna canneries. By 1942 the company was selling its products under the name "StarKist," and in 1953 the company officially became StarKist Foods. Bogdanovich died after suffering a heart attack during a meeting at the Yugoslav American Club, of which he was a charter member. He married and had a son and six daughters. At his death, his son assumed the role of manager of the company.
