Funeral Services for J. H. Edwards, 88 of 6011 Grover were held Tuesday at Hyltin-Manor Funeral Home with Rev. J.D. Benson officiating. Burial was in Capital Memorial Gardens.

GRASSROOTS UPSIDE DOWN A History of Lynn Co., Texas:
"J.H. Edwards came to Lynn Co. in 1906. He became prominent in Texas politics in later years. He was born in Ellis Co., January 1875, and grew up in Crawford. There he married Miss Molly Goddard in 1899. Coming to Lynn Co., J. H. was deputy sheriff under the 2nd sheriff, J.S. Wells, then was elected to 2 terms as sheriff, 1910, 1914. He then was engaged in farming, real estate, and was with the Texas Railroad Commission several years. The Edwards moved to Austin about 1939 where he worked for the Treasury Dept. of the State of Texas until his retirement at age 84. Mrs. Edwards died shortly after leaving Tahoka. They were members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Edwards helped organize the Masonic Lodge in Tahoka and served as the first Worshipful Master. He was a 32nd degree Mason. " p. 319
