He is the son of the late Thomas E. Charlton and Edna Meador Charlton.
He retired from Hinton Builders Supply Company and attended Riverview Chapel, Hinton. He had been a lifelong resident of Summers County.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Clay Charlton: and two sisters, Ester McKinney and Estelle Wills.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Whitlock Charlton; three daughters, Nancy Bragg (husband John), Betty Trainum Bock (husband Ron), and Ellen Reed (husband David); two brothers, John Charlton and Tom Charlton; six sisters, Ida Abshire, Edna Cole, Beulah Hannigan, Helen Wise, Hallie Hoffman, and Margaret Kennedy; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Service at 2 p.m.Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton. with Pastor Elmo Alderman and Harry Pilkington officiating. Burial in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.
