Mr. Karstaedt was born Dec. 12, 1893, in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Frank and Wilhelmina Stueckhorst Karsteadt. He attended district schools in the area. He was a veteran of World War I. He married Amanda Rabe Nov. 26, 1919, in Zion Lutheran Church, Louis Corners. The couple operated a farm in the Town of Meeme until retiring in 1960. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 5, 1964.
Survivors include five sons, Elmer of New Holstein, Wilbert of Kiel, Ralph of Rt. 1, Kiel, Roger of Sheboygan and Larry of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Bernice) Scharenbroch and Mrs. William (Agnes) Mueller of Rt. 1, Kiel, Mrs. William (Caroline) Zimmermann and Mrs. Ralph (Julianne) Hickmann of Rt. 2,
Kiel, Mrs. Seraphino (Henrietta) Marchiando, of Sheboygan Falls, Mrs. Victor (Alyce Mae) Schanke and Mrs. Genroy (Mar Jean) Schmitz, of New Holstein and Mrs. Norbert (Virginia) Herbst, of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. Florence Dedering, of Howards Grove, 30 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a great grandchild and three step great grandchildren. Two sisters, three brothers, and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
