Wilbert "Wimpy" R. Karstaedt, 81, of 1046 Second St., Kiel, passed away, Sunday evening, Dec. 4, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton of complications of a heart attack he had on Thursday at his home.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1924 in the Town of Meeme, son of the late Frank and Amanda Rabe Karstaedt.

Wimpy attended Mineral Springs Grade School.

On July 18, 1953 he married Patricia Burkhardt at Community UCC in Elkhart Lake.

In his younger years Wimpy worked for various farmers in the area, construction work and was employed at American Chair Company. In 1987 he retired from the Generator Division of Kohler Company after 32 years of employment.

Wimpy and his wife, Pat, lived in the School Hill area until 1970 when they moved to Kiel.

Wimpy and his family traveled throughout the U.S. including a trip to Alaska.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years and after retirement enjoyed yard work and trips to casinos.

Each day he would have breakfast with his buddies at a local restaurant and proceed to purchase his daily lottery ticket.

His biggest pride and joy was his family and loved spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Pat; one son, Randy (Clare) Karstaedt, Evergreen, Colo.; two daughters, Bonnie (Norbert) Waack of Kiel and Judy (David) Walber of New Holstein; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Ashley Waack and Andrew Walber; and Wimpy's mother-in-law,Malinda Burkhardt of Sheboygan Falls. He is further survived by four brothers, Elmer (Verona) Karstaedt of New Holstein, Ralph (Delores) Karstaedt of Kiel, Roger (Caroline) Karstaedt of Tennessee and Larry Karstaedt of Phoenix, AZ; eight sisters, Bernice (Herbert) Scharenbroch of School Hill, Henrietta (Seraphino) Marchiando of Sheboygan, Carolyn Zimmermann of Sheboygan, Alyce (Victor) Schanke of New Holstein, Agnes (Vernon) Vogel of Kiel Julieanne (Ralph) Hickmann of Kiel, Virginia(Norbert) Herbst of North Carolina and Marjean (Glenroy) Schmitz of New Holstein; one sister-in-law, Donna Truttmann of Green Bay; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Pat) Burkhardt Jr. of Sun Praire, Ronald Burkhardt of Sheboygan Falls; one aunt, Betty Rabe; one uncle, Herman Binversie;numerous, nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Paul Burkhardt and brother-in-laws, Wayne Truttmann, William Mueller and William Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St. Kiel with the Rev. Catherine A. Carlson officiating.

Burial will take place in the Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig (Rockville).

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of service.

Wimpy's family would like to thank the Kiel and Chilton Ambulance Crew for all their help and the doctor's and staff at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Appleton and Calumet Medical Center, Chilton.
