Commissioner Humphries Dies At 66
~ J. Earl Humphries, 66, husband of Mrs. Gladys Sarratt Humphries of 100 Elmore St., died unexpectedly Friday afternoon at 12:45 at Cherokee County Hospital.
~ A life-long resident of Cherokee County, he was a son of the late John P. and Jemima McCraw Humphries. He was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church and served as the county commissioner for the past ten years. He was employed with Davis Cleaners.
~ Also surviving are one son, Maynard L. Humphries of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Misses Wilma and Louise Humphries, both of Gaffney; two brothers, Winfred and Delbert Humphries, both of Gaffney.
~ Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Sidney North. Interment was in the church cemetery.
~ Active pallbearers were Frankie, Ray, Edward, and Jim Sarratt, Nelson Hendrick, Eddie Pendry, Dwayne Wesley, and Max Gene Humphries, Roy Dean and Dennis Davis, and Wayne Shigley.
~ Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge.
