Delbert Humphries
Gaffney, SC - - Delbert Dan Humphries, 88, of 405 Cherokee National Highway, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his residence. Born in Cherokee County, he was the widower of the late Betty George Humphries and the son of the late John P. Humphries and Jemima McCraw Humphries. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and The Banking School of the South at LSU. He was a United States World War II Air Force Veteran, where he was a Staff Sergeant and served in Australia, Philippines and Pacific. He was formerly employed with Merchant Planters National Bank, which later merged into C & S National Bank, where he worked for over 45 years. He was a former member of the Lion's Club, an enthusiastic golfer and gardener and was past President of the Cherokee County Hospital Board. Mr. Humphries was a member of First Baptist Church since 1948, where he was a Life Deacon, Sunday School Teacher for the Survey Class, Training Union Director and served in many other areas of the Church. Surviving are two sons, Wesley Humphries of Louisville, KY and Todd Humphries and wife, Juanita of Gaffney. Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM on Monday, November 29, 2010 at First Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the Church with Dr. M.B. Morrow Jr. and Rev. Joel Sellers officiating. Interment will in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of SC, 1612 N.
