Ina Gaye Thacker
NOVEMBER 20, 1931 – NOVEMBER 9, 2021

Ina Gaye Thacker was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She died in Tucson on November 9, 2021, just shy of her 90th birthday, surrounded by family singing her favorite church and Appalachian gospel hymns. Church and family were her most precious devotions. Ina Gaye was a lifelong Primitive Baptist who could be heard singing her beautiful acapella harmonies on Sunday mornings or just about any time family got together. Her family was truly the light of her world and she delighted in her role as mother and Mommaw. She was genuinely adored by so many who were grateful to experience her generous grandmotherly kindness and affection. In her 60-years in Tucson, she was also Mommaw to several generations of neighbors and friends. Ina Gaye was born to Paris and Thelma Blackburn on November 20, 1931 in Pike County, KY. Her Aunt Celia (Thacker) also played a profound role as a "second mom" in her upbringing. By the time she was in first grade, Ina Gaye's beloved Clifford was sending her "I luv u" notes. He proved to be her one and only love. They eloped on April 14, 1948 after a day of high school classes and enjoyed 59-years of marriage before Clifford's death in 2007. Ina Gaye's legacy lives on through her five children - Geri, Janet (Tim Janes), Joe (Lynnea), Teresa (Clark Phillips), and Barbara (Curtis Brakke) – along with her 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, brothers, sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. They will remember her warmth, fun-loving spirit, generosity, and gumption. She epitomized the saying, "If there's a will, there's a way!" She always found a way! She could always get a difficult job done or overcome a seemingly impossible challenge. A viewing is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Tucson Primitive Baptist Church, 5921 E. Lee St., Tucson, AZ 85712. Her funeral service is set for 10:30 AM on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the church, followed by a graveside service at 1:15 PM at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712.
