POPE Wayne H. Wayne H. Pope, beloved husband of Esther R. Pope, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. He was 86 years old. Wayne's legacy lives on in his many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wayne was born in 1921 in New Brockton, Alabama and spent his growing years in Florida and here in Toledo. He and Esther began their life together in 1963 and shared 43 years. He worked for many years as a stationary engineer for Pure Oil Refinery and retired from Phillips Petroleum Company in research and development. Wayne spent his retirement years playing chess, a game he loved, or enjoying a game of billiards with friends. He was an avid reader, enjoyed the challenge of a crossword puzzle or was content quietly sitting on his front porch listening to a ball game. Everyone in the neighborhood was comfortable sharing a greeting or pausing for a chat with "Mr. Pope." He was a keen observer of human nature and of high intelligence which was exemplified in his quiet ways, quick wit and the pleasure he took in a good joke. He will be remembered as a man of strong faith, firm convictions and a belief that each of us have to make his own happiness. Wayne will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Children with first wife Violet ~ Herbert (Roseann), Tommy (Carolyn), Daniel (Rose), Judith Meeker, Jeff (Janet), 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, & 4 great-great-grandchildren.
