James D. Pope, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2011. He is survived by his wife Colleen of 57 years; 3 daughters, Robin McBride (Roger), Tammy Provin (Bruce), and Jamie Nevarez (Elias); 3 sons, Ben Collins (Devon), Barry Collins (Ann), and Bryan Pope; sister, Gail Draft; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

Jim proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He attended the University of VA on a football scholarship as a defensive end. Jim began his career as a crane operator and worked on major bridges and tunnels along the Eastern seaboard, Canada, and Saudi Arabia. Then he was elected President and later became the elected Business Manager for the Operating Engineers Union, Local #673. He was also a long time member of the Masonic order.

Jim was a proud and honorable man who had an exceptional work ethic and was an excellent provider for his family. He enjoyed gardening, reading, playing board games, and loved watching all sports.

There will be a graveside memorial service, with military honors, at 1PM, Wednesday, Nov. 23rd. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. Jim will be greatly missed by those who loved him and will live in our hearts forever.
