John & Rose lived in Smiths Falls, Ontario but in Apr 1897 he moved his family back to his origins in Huntley Twp. He was listed twice in the 1921 Census of Canada; once in York/Toronto with his wife Rose Ann and their son Leo, plus Leo's wife Margaret and daughter Mary. He was also listed in Ottawa as living with his single sister Catherine (and listed as single himself), for reasons unknown.

JOHN CARTER
John Carter, formerly of Huntley township, died yesterday morning at a local hospital [St Patrick's Home, a charitable home for the needy where he had been living for 2 years]. He was in his 78th year. His wife, formerly Rose Valcour, had pre-deceased him him several years ago. Surviving are two sons, John and Leo Carter, and one daughter-in-law of Jellicoe, Ont.; a grand-daughter, Miss Mary Carter, of Douglas, Ont.; three sisters, the Misses Mary Ann and Catherine Carter, Ottawa, and Mrs. Peter Burns, Almonte; and two brothers, Patrick and James Carter of Huntley. T. J. Boulger, of Ottawa, was a brother-in-law. The funeral will take place this morning from McEvoy Bros. parlors, 471 MacLaren street to St. Patrick's church for high mass of requiem at ten o'clock. Interment will be at Smiths Falls.
